Satisfy your sweet tooth with this easy dessert that includes healthy oats, nuts, and fruit. It is irresistible when served warm, with a dollop of vanilla ice cream or sweetened whipped cream.

Oat-Pecan Crumble
3/4 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped pecans
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

Filling
4 Granny Smith or other tart apples, peeled, cored, and cut into 1/2-inch thick slices
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1. Preheat the oven to 425° F. Lightly butter an 8-inch square baking dish.

2. In a medium bowl, combine the oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, salt, and nuts. Stir until combined. Pour in the butter and stir with a fork until combined.

3. In a large bowl, combine the apples, lemon juice, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg and stir until the apples are thoroughly coated.

4. Add the apple mixture to the prepared baking dish, spreading evenly. Spoon the oat mixture evenly on top. Bake for 15 minutes. Reduce the oven temperature to 350° F and bake for 45 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Serve warm, scooped into bowls.

Make It Your Own:
Try substituting sliced peaches and/or blueberries or blackberries for the apples and chopped walnuts or almonds for the pecans. A little freshly grated nutmeg or ground allspice or cardamom adds interesting flavor. You can substitute orange juice for the lemon juice.
