Wild Strawberry Inky Blue by Wedgwood

The new Wild Strawberry Inky Blue collection reimagines one of Wedgwood’s most popular patterns in shades of blue. It has all the beloved motifs of the original Wild Strawberry pattern that was introduced in 1964, and the new color adds modern energy. It has a timeless elegance without being stuffy, and everything in the collection is dishwasher and microwave safe!

The following are three little-known and amazing facts about Josiah Wedgwood, the founder of the renowned Wedgwood company of England.

From 1787 until his death in 1795, Josiah Wedgwood actively participated in the Abolition of Slavery cause. Many common sales techniques such as direct mail, money-back guarantee, free delivery, celebrity endorsement, illustrated catalogs, and buy one get one free came from Josiah Wedgwood. Charles Darwin, best known for his contributions to the science of evolution, was Josiah Wedgwood's grandson!

The Wedgwood story begins in 1759, when a 29-year-old Josiah Wedgwood started as an independent potter in Burslem, England. Josiah invented materials that the Wedgwood company is still producing today, such as Jasper and Queen’s Ware. Today Burslem is part of the city of Stoke-on-Trent, known as the pottery capital of England. Remembered as the “Father of English Potters,” Josiah’s pioneer spirit, design work, and commitment to exacting standards of quality are values that remain at the heart of Wedgwood.

Wedgwood’s enduring appeal began with Queen Charlotte. She ordered a set of the company’s cream-colored earthenware that she loved so much that Josiah Wedgwood was granted permission to call himself ‘Potter to Her Majesty’ and to call his innovative Creamware ‘Queen’s Ware.” Since then, Wedgwood collections have graced the tables of British monarchs and Heads of States, such as the Vatican and the White House.

It’s been over two centuries since Josiah Wedgwood began inspiring people to adorn their tables with Wedgwood’s creativity and style, and the company continues to be renowned for quality, innovation, and elegance.
